Welcome

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I have to confess that I have never been particularly interested in fairy tales. My childhood was full of some very good and formative books, but fairy tales do not occupy a prominent place in my memory. Please, make no mistake in thinking that fairy tales were somehow banned of frowned upon by my parents; they were happy that I liked to read and encouraged it. I guess I was just never pushed toward fairy tales.

My academic reading has consisted largely of American literature with a little Virginia Woolfe thrown in. I spent a couple of quarters focusing in large part on the Naturalism movement and the work of Frank Norris. I also enjoy southern writers such as Walker Percy and Flannery O'Conner immensely.

That's just a little about me and what makes me tick. I am looking forward to this class; I think it will be a new challenge when you consider how little exposure I have had to fairy tales.

Have a great quarter,
John
